Mixing reggaeton and pop music was released in the year 2017 by singer from Puerto Rico Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. It was the top-streamed song at the period within a span of six months. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish as of 2016, in contrast to two in 2015. In the midst of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks that made the Top 100. In 2020, the number was 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 shortly after which famous artists started working with reggaeton artists. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018), while Madonna collaborated on Medellin together with Maluma (2019). From the beginning of 2020, a few reggaeton artists protested that the genre was shifting toward more mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a member of a brand new generation of musicians who are determined to shift the course. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music and other styles was a common procedure.
