Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and singer whose acting range earned her popular acclaim across many styles from period dramas to action and thriller. Johansson was born in New York City, and lived there with her architect father and producer mother. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. Her interest began in acting from a very young age auditioning for commercials by the age of seven. She became interested in acting rapidly and she immediately to the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. At age eight she appeared together with Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry when she was nine. At that age, she made her debut in film with Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson played the lead role as a character in Just Cause (1995), after which she made her debut in the film Manny & Lo - a story of two sisters and orphans who are able to escape. Next, she received high praise from critics for her performance as an teen girl who suffered an accident that resulted in her being with a blemish on screen in The Horse Whisperer (1998). She gained more attention with the film Ghost World (2002) as the self-deprecating outcast Rebecca. Like many actresses who are new, she chose to develop her talent in theatre. She was involved in various USA productions, while also getting her stage debut in the company of Wildflower.
