Madekwe was raised in an ethnically mixed family. Her mother is English and her father Nigerian. She was born on a South London community estate, and at the age of 14, attended The Brit School. From 2014-2016, Madekwe starred in the role of Tituba in the TV series Salem. Madekwe and her boyfriend for many years, Iddo Goldenberg, were wedding in June of 2012. Both of them have been in Secret Diary of a Call Girl. They also played as partners in Salem.

Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress who was raised in the large family. She was born to Roy and Patty Leggat.
